William Leslie Bogenhagen

Longtime Wallace, KS resident William Leslie Bogenhagen, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the St. Catharine Hospital in Garden City, KS.

William was born on March 14, 1947 in Julesburg, CO, to Leslie August and Thelma Louise (Nootz) Bogenhagen.  He was one of 3 children.  When he was a child, the family moved to Wallace County, where he attended school and graduated in 1965 from the Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs.

On August 17, 1968, William marred Theodora Sponsel and one daughter Nicole was born.  They later divorced.  William was draft into the United States Army on February 25, 1969, and served in the 1st Infantry Division of the 82nd Airborn during the Vietnam War.  He was Honorably Discharged on February 24, 1971.

William ran a rural mail route for many years and had a love for farming. His daughter and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved going to all of his grandchildren’s activities while they were growing up.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving family include his daughter Nicole (Marty) Bieker of Great Bend, KS, three grandchildren; Natasha Bieker (Tanner Vick) of Pittsburg, KS, Dalton Bieker (Tashauna Graves) and Caden Bieker all of Great Bend, KS.  He is also survived by his longtime companion and friend Cheri Klap, one brother Larry (Ester) Bogenhagen and one sister Lorraine Twedt. 

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30 AM MT at the Dinas Community Cemetery, south of Wallace, KS. 

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Wallace County EMS or to the Dinas Community Church and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
