Vera Brown

November 14, 1919 — December 17, 2013

Longtime Sherman County, Kansas resident Vera Brown, 94, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County in Goodland, Kansas.

She was born on November 14, 1919, on the family farm home north of Kanorado, Kansas, the daughter of Rae and Frank Pizel, Jr.  She had four brothers Vernon, Herbert, Chester, and Harold Pizel, and three sisters Rozella Shoemaker, LaReatha Stasser, and Shirley Churchill.  Only Shirley survives.

Vera and Karl Brown were married on March 21, 1937.  She had retired from Goodland Schools food service.  Her memberships included First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women Circle 3, and Elks Ladies.

Surviving family includes three children Sylvia Zimbelman and her husband Alvin; Elizabeth “Betty” Shomaker, and Roy Brown; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 21, at 2:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Reverend Shelly Petz officiating.  Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Saturday, from 11:00 AM MT until the service.

Memorials may be designated to the Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County, First United Methodist Church, or Hospice Services of Sherman County, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
