Goodland, KS resident, Myrtle Mae Murphy passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Topside Manor in Goodland at the age of 99.
Myrtle was born on May 26, 1926 in Sharon Springs, KS to Nathan Hudson and Myrtle May (Spillman) Aumiller.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Dale Herbert Murphy on December 21, 1945 at the Courthouse in Goodland, KS. To this union three children were born; Norman, Leatha and Douglas.
Myrtle was a very active member of the VFW Auxiliary and served multiple offices. Myrtle made many lifelong friends during her time in the Auxiliary.
She loved to crochet and made many potholders and things for family and friends. She also enjoyed passing her time doing word search puzzles. It always made her day if she could get someone to play cards or play some kind of game. Let’s just say, she won more than she ever lost.
Myrtle was a cook at the Goodland Senior Center for 13 years. She loved Halloween. For years, she would dress up to pass out candy to all the trick or treaters.
Preceding her in death were parents Nathan and Myrtle Aumiller, her husband Dale, 4 brothers, Grant Aumiller and his wife Helen, Eph Aumiller, Nathan Aumiller and his wife Florence and Marian Aumiller; 8 sisters, Mina Welton and her husband Pete, Edna Duncan and her husband Gareld, Lillie Hambrock, Darlene Aumiller, Edith Bedker, Mable Rice and her husband Kane, Joyce Austin and her husband Bob and Della Hyatt and her husband Horace, as well as some nieces and nephews.
Surviving family includes her children; Norman (Gwen) Murphy of Shawnee, KS, Leatha Murphy of Goodland, KS, Douglas (Ronda) Murphy of Ogallala, NE and Lonzo Brown of Jacksonville, FL, whom she declared as one of her sons. She is also survived by her grandchildren Drew (Allison) Murphy of Baldwin City, KS, Brice (Kassie) Murphy of Overland Park, KS, Cindy George and Mark Stone of Riverton, WY, Jennifer (T.J.) Mader of Bennington, KS, Jason (Angila) Murphy of Dickinson, ND, Kody Murphy of North Platte, NE and Lacie (Dana) Huebner of Shawnee, KS; great grandchildren, Zachary Murphy of Shawnee, KS, Avery Murphy of Baldwin City, KS, Teagan and Kaylee Murphy of Overland Park, KS, Colt George and Chase George of Riverton, WY, Wyatt (Julisa) Mader of Greenleaf, KS, Bailey Mader of Bennington, KS, Elizabeth, Charolette, Elenor and Theadora Murphy of Dickinson, ND, Isabella and Mark Murphy of North Platte, NE, Zoey, Rachel, Logan and Dominic Huebner of Shawnee, KS and one great great grandchild Elizabeth Mader of Greenleaf, KS.
