May 19, 1943 — Jul 13, 2026

Goodland, Kansas

Michael V. Foust, of Goodland, KS, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 83, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, KS surrounded by loved ones. He was a dedicated family man, prestigious and accomplished attorney, and a cherished friend. He was born on May 19, 1943, to Jack and Dorocile (Pepper) Foust, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was a beacon of integrity, fortitude, and wisdom throughout his life.

Mike’s journey began in his hometown of Goodland, Kansas, where he graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1961. His passion for learning and justice led him to the University of Kansas, where he graduated in 1966. He then dedicated three years to the Foust Drilling Co., before life led him to Washburn Law School. During his time there, Michael worked in the Attorney General's office and was the editor for the Washburn Law Journal his senior year; balancing his burgeoning legal career with the responsibilities of a young family. He graduated from Washburn in 1972, and his commitment to law continued as he practiced in Goodland for 52 years, providing invaluable counsel and support to his community. Later in his career he was given the opportunity to try cases before the Supreme Court and traveled to Washington D.C. in order to be sworn in.

In 1964, Mike married Jeannette Ihrig, and together they embarked on a partnership that lasted almost 62 years. Their marriage was a testament of love and devotion, full of laughs and adventure; their greatest joy being their children, Michelle and John. Mike’s legacy extends to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Mike’s life was further enriched through his passions and pursuits. An avid reader with a particular interest in World War II history and warplanes, he delighted in conversations with veterans recounting their experiences. In addition, he was a self-taught guitarist who found joy in music. Whether on the golf course; traveling, or at the water's edge with his grandchildren and a fishing line, Mike cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Michael was also deeply involved in his community. He served as Senior Warden twice at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and contributed 16 years of service on the Board of the Goodland Public Library. He was a valued member of both the Rotary Club and Elks’ Club. Known for his drive, dedication, and razor-sharp wit, Mike had a masterful way with words, often writing about his own life experiences and observations, thus leaving behind a legacy of thought-provoking and heartfelt writings.

Mike’s life was a rich tapestry of lives he touched and those whom he cherished. Mike’s memory will forever be held dear by those who knew him, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Michelle Wilkens of Plainville, John (Kathy) Foust, sister, Lynn Hildebrand of Colby; grandchildren, Jordyn (Felix) Wilkens-Talamantes, Jessica Wilkens, Joselyn (Luke) Lindgren, Gabe (Ashton) Wilkens, Brittany (Becca) Fouson, and Cecilia Foust; great-grandchildren, Remington Talamantes, Harper Lindgren, Oliver Lindgren, Adalynn Lindgren, and Arlee Wilkens.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorocile Foust and his In-Laws Oscar and Leola (Schisler) Ihrig.
