Elizabeth Lucille Koop, 92, of Burlington, Colorado passed away on Sunday morning, June 15, 2025, at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital.
Lucille was born on the family homestead between Vona, CO and Kirk, CO on December 20, 1932, to Arthur and Sadie (Clair) Finley. She graduated from Kirk High School in 1950. On July 30th of the same year, she married the love of her life, Leonard Koop, at the Joes Mennonite Church. To this union 4 children were born: Leonard Allen, Gary, Karen, and Sharon.
Lucille, otherwise known as Grandma Lucy, retired from the Burlington School District as a cook for 21 years. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls and also loved baking zwieback, one bowl chocolate cake, and New Year’s Cookies for her family. She worked at Red Front market, volunteered at the Welcome Center, and enjoyed visiting her friends in Grace Manor.
She served as a church pianist for many years. Lucille’s faith and love of family were always her priority in life. She touched many lives throughout her time spent with family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Leonard, her sons Leonard Allen and Gary Lynn, granddaughter Sarah Morgan Vance, and her three brothers, Kenneth, Richard, and Bud Finley.
Lucille is survived by her two daughters Karen Briegel (Gordon) and Sharon Vance (Mike), and her daughter in law, Tammy Koop; grandchildren, Brian Koop, Collin Koop, Lindsay Smith (Rich), Kendra Wagner (Ryan), Kari Briegel and Bobby Crouse, Annie Humrich, and Griff Vance; great-grandchildren, Rielle and Witten Smith, Kinsley and Lyla Wagner, and Rowdy and Scout Humrich.
Memorial contributions may be made to the McArthur Senior Cente or to the E-Free Church and can be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
