Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Lowell Dean Morton died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at New-Mark Nursing Home in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born November 24, 1929, in Sherman County, Kansas, the son of Florence (Skelton) and John Morton.  He graduated from Sherman Community High School in Goodland with the class of 1948.  From February 21, 1951 through February 20, 1953, he served his country in the United States Army.  On October 3, 1953, he and Hazel Ruth Dizmang were married at Raton, New Mexico, and they made their home in Goodland.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 1528 of Goodland.

Preceding him in death were his wife Hazel Ruth Morton, who died June 20, 2008; his parents; brothers Victor Morton, Ben Morton, Raymond Morton, Irving Morton, Dale Morton; sisters Ermyl (Bernard) Borgmann and Dorothy (Kenneth)Whistler; sister-in-law Irene (Harold) Johnson,; brothers-in-law Allen Kirby, Jack Laughlin, Joe Lynn, and Dan Foster.

Surviving family includes his son William Morton and his wife Cheryl of Liberty, Missouri; four grandchildren Andrea Knutter of Kansas City, Missouri; Kristine Knutter of Liberty, Missouri; Lucas Knutter of Kearney, Missouri; Jonathan Morton of Liberty, Missouri; great-grandchildren Madelyn Knutter and Jesse Cunningham, both of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Fern Foster of Centennial, Colorado; sisters-in-law Mildred Laughlin, Darlene Kirby, and Katie Musil and her husband Ronnie, Virginia Morton, all of Goodland;  Ruth Morton of Mississippi; Vera Lynn of Longmont, Colorado; brothers-in-law Dwane Dizmang and his wife Twila of Norton; Lyle Dizmang and his wife Pat of West Virginia; Dick Dizmang and his wife Nancy of Arvada, Colorado; Darrell Dizmang and his wife Carolyn of Windsor, Colorado; nephew Walter Foster of Centennial, Colorado; and many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 10:00 until 11:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with the funeral at 11:00 AM MT.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
