Lota Phillips

Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Lota Lucetta Phillips, 99, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Life Care Center of Evergreen in Evergreen, Colorado.

She was born April 5, 1913, near Abilene, the daughter of Melissa Ellen (Reager) and Charles Myers.  She attended school at Oakley.  On July 31, 1933, she and George H. Phillips were married.  George’s previous wife had died, leaving George and their 1 ½ year old daughter Goldie, but now, a new family had been formed.  In 1935, the family moved to Goodland.  After several years in Hill City, the family returned to Goodland in 1939.  Lota helped George with the grocery and meat business through the years, retiring in 1975.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and EHU.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband George Phillips; two sons Gerald Leland Phillips and Charles John Phillips; grandson John Lee Pizel; son-in-law Vernon Pizel; three brothers Leon Myers, Kenneth Myers, Vernon Eugene Myers; two sisters Zora Zimbelman and Veleta Adams;

Surviving family includes her daughter Goldie Pizel; granddaughter Diana Black and her husband Ellis; two great-granddaughters Lindsay Black, and Jordan Ericson and her husband Michael, all of Denver, Colorado.

The funeral will be Monday, October 15, at 2:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Pastor Travis Blake officiating.  Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Monday, from 10:00 until 2:00 PM MT.

Memorials may be designated to Mount Evans Hospice or Life Care Center of Evergreen, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
