Lois Jones

June 8, 1936 — February 26, 2014

Longtime Wallace County, Kansas resident Lois Ellen Jones, 77, passed away on February 26, 2014.  She died peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Lois was born June 8, 1936, in Logan County, Kansas, and was raised by her parents Clayton L. and Kittie (Bell) Jones.
Lois attended elementary school at the Little Eagle County School in Logan County and attended both Boulder High School in Boulder, Colorado, and Russell Springs High School in Russell Springs, Kansas.
As a young woman, Lois worked at Heyl’s restaurant and Mrs. Brand’s Country Store and Motel.  True to her kind and gentle spirit, she was also caregiver to Mrs. Harbaugh of Sharon Springs, Kansas. In her younger days, riding horses was her passion. Her face would light up when she spoke of riding bareback with her hair flying behind her in the Kansas wind.
On June 17, 1955, she married Dewayne David Jones. They resided in Logan County, farming there, and they continued to farm when they moved to Wallace County in 1962.
Lois loved reading the Bible and loved the Lord with all of her heart.  She also enjoyed reading poetry, listening to music, visiting with friends, and drawing still life pictures.  Collecting stamps and pens were her hobbies.  As the family matriarch, she was the thread that held the tapestry of a large family together.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dewayne Jones.
Lois is survived by all nine of her children:  Don Nevins and his wife Casey of Smyrna, Georgia; Mervin Cunningham and his wife Brenda of Sharon Springs, Kansas; Darlene Darensburg and Jolene Jones, both of Heath, Texas; Earl Jones and his wife Luann; Gary Jones, all of Dallas Texas; Charlotte Jones of Hawkins, Texas; Anita Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; Dwight Jones and his wife Jenifer of Denver, Colorado.  Additionally, Lois is survived by her sister Sherry Edwards of Los Angeles, California; three sisters-in-law: Larene Brown and Betty Scroggins, both of Sacramento, California; and Ruth Dobson of Hill City, Kansas; one brother-in-law Eugene Jones of Sacramento, California; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM MT at Hi-Plains Baptist Church, 201 E. 2nd Street, Sharon Springs, Kansas, with Pastor Jolene Jones and Pastor Rick Dewees officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wallace Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Friday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
Memorials may be designated to the Lois Ellen Jones Memorial, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, Kansas 67735.  On-line condolences:  www.koonsfuneralhome.com
