Lois D. Cossman

Lois Darlene Cossman, 91, of Goodland, shed this mortal coil peacefully Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026 after a brief illness.

Beloved mother of Jennifer L. Busby of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Roderick Cossman of Krum, Texas, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas Busby, Bolin Busby, Elizabeth Busby, Richele Cossman, Ryan Cossman, Lindsey Cossman, Cody Cossman, and Alex Cossman, and her great-grandchildren, Chloe Wills, Elijah Daigle, Mya Busby, Braxton Busby, Alexxus Ward, Devin Cossman, Corbin Meighen, Caisyn Cossman, L.J. Cossman, Bailee Cossman, Kanard Hale, and Abigail Hale, and one great-great grandchild, Cash Meighen.

Lois and her husband of 52 years, Robert Cossman, established and prospered at their farm in Goodland, where she exemplified the life of a pioneer woman. She was renowned for her cooking, especially her fried chicken, fried catfish, and beef and noodles. In her later years, she traveled extensively with Lazy K Coach and even visited Iceland (but refused to eat horse!).

Long active in local and state politics, she was an active member of the Silver-Haired Legislature, and as a committeewoman in the Sherman County Republican Party. She also served as a board member in Northwest Kansas Water Management District 4. She also served on the board of the Goodland Senior Center and held every office there.

Fiercely independent and resourceful, she drove and maintained her own lifestyle until the very end. Always with a smile and kind word for all, she was strong in her devotion, love, and faith in her family, her church, her community and the Nation, she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
