December 21, 1948 — November 4, 2025

Burlington, Colorado

Larry LeRoy Winslow was born on December 21, 1948 to Clarence Leroy and Loas Marie (Wachs) Winslow in Burlington Colorado. He passed from this life on November 4th, 2025 at the Medical Center of Aurora surrounded by family.

Larry attended Burlington High School and graduated in 1966. After graduating and before leaving for the service he met the love of his life Constance (Jane) Taylor at the Howdy Partner Drive In, in Burlington. They were married on March 16, 1968 at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burlington. In May of that same year, he left for basic training to Amarillo, Texas. Jane later joined him in Wichita Falls Texas after he got out of basic training. From there they moved to Clovis New Mexico where he served out the rest of his active duty at Cannon Air Force Base. During their time in New Mexico, they welcomed their first son, Kevin Alan on December 22, 1968. Larry achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant before being discharged from active duty on May 21, 1972.

After being discharged, Larry moved the family back to Burlington Colorado where they put down their roots. Larry worked with his dad at C&L Nursery where he helped with landscaping. He later started his own business painting houses. He was known for being the best at finishing trim. He also began substituting on the rural mail route. In 1973 he began to run his own rural mail route. During that time he put on an astonishing 1 million miles and was recognized for that accomplishment when he retired from the US Postal Service in 2004. During these years, Larry was best known for his punctuality and service. All his patrons said they could set their watches by him. On May 25, 1980 Larry and Jane welcomed their second son Cheyne LeRoy to the family. Justin Dain completed the family on April 25, 1983.

In 1988, Larry opened Gunrunner Trading Post upstairs in his brother-in-law’s building, Carousel Rose. He bought out Stratton Sporting Goods and in 2000 he expanded his business to its permanent location on Main Street in downtown Burlington. He was well known for his knowledge of guns and ammo and anything to do with shooting/hunting. You could always count on Larry to know the answers to your questions. His shop was a hot spot for hanging out and sharing stories for those who shared in those interests. Many friendships were born there that will last a lifetime. Among all of Larry’s accomplishments, one of his most cherished was being a part of and helping with 4-H Shooting Sports. He and Jane coached and supported the kids until Larry’s passing. Larry was always willing to help the kids with finding and fitting guns and gathering ammo. Larry and Jane were also instrumental in starting the Rifle Range.

Larry’s real pride and joy were his two grandchildren. In 2018 he became a grandpa when his first grandchild, Jaxtyn was born. In 2021 he welcomed his granddaughter Shaylee. Since Larry and Jane took care of them from the time they were born, the bond between them was immeasurable. Two days prior to Larry’s passing, he was able to go hunting with Jane, Justin, Kennedy, Jaxtyn and Shaylee. He took a gun to shoot with Jaxtyn, and spent two days looking for deer. Larry loved the outdoors and anything to do with hunting, fishing, his gunshop and his family. He also loved to compete in Black Powder, Tomahawk and Knife Throwing, and Trap Shooting. He had a deadeye that was hard to beat!

Larry is proceeded in Death by his father, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Loas Winslow of Burlington, his beloved wife, Jane Winslow of Burlington, his children, Kevin Winslow of Burlington, Justin (Kennedy), Jaxtyn and Shaylee Winslow of Burlington, Cheyne (Elvie) Winslow of Scottsdale, Arizona and their daughter April (Keegan) Baker, Sister, Linda (Larry) Paige of Burlington and Brother Gary (Phyllis) Winslow of Council Grove, Kansas.
