Kenan Bussen

Lifelong Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Kenan Leon Bussen, 62, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born December 31, 1950, at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, the son of Dolores (Basgall) and Leo Bussen.  He graduated with the class of 1968 from Wallace County Community High School.  He served his country in the United States Army from June 3, 1970, through February 19, 1971.

On July 23, 1979, he and Debra Magwire were married at Raton, New Mexico, and they made their home in Wallace County, Kansas, where they farmed and ranched.
His memberships included Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6844.  Hunting, golfing, fishing, riding motorcycles, farming and ranching, and especially time with his children, were his favorites.

Preceding him in death were his father Leo Bussen, brother Johnny Bussen, mother-in-law Phyllis Hurley, father-in-law Keith Magwire, brother-in-law Darrell Magwire, and sister-in-law Libby Bussen.

Surviving family includes his wife Debra Bussen of Sharon Springs; son Brandon Bussen and Rachel Rains of Wallace; daughter Corinna Hines and her husband Travis of Coolidge; daughter Lindsey Larson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; mother Dolores Bussen of Sharon Springs; brother Jim Bussen and his wife Penny of Wallace; brother Ronald “Butch” Bussen of Wallace; sister Trina Smelker and her husband Ted of Kit Carson, Colorado; brother Mark Bussen and his wife V.K. of Clovis, New Mexico; and nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 9, at 10:30 AM MT, at the Wallace County Community High School Gym, with Father Norbert Dlabal and Reverend Paul McNall, presiding.  Burial will follow in the Wallace Cemetery in Wallace, Kansas, with military honors.

Friends may share their respects on Sunday, from 5:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs.  Vigil and rosary will follow at 6:00 PM MT.

Memorials may be designated to Wallace County Little Wranglers Rodeo or Sharon Springs Golf Club, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
