Goodland, Kansas resident Ida Thomas, 84, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Goodland Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 1, 1928, at Holyoke, Colorado, the daughter of Ruth Elizabeth (Enyeart) and Mahlon C. Shappell.  She attended country school, which was located between Holyoke and Wray.

She had been a resident of Idalia, Colorado, before moving to Goodland seven years ago.  In Idalia, she attended St. John’s United Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, son Arthur Weaver, brother Raymond Shappell, brother-in-law Clifford Olson; and niece Patty Olson.

Surviving family includes daughter Sharon Lightle and her husband Elmer of Goodland; grandson Darren Lightle and his wife Marie of West Monroe, Louisiana; two granddaughters Kim Osborn and her husband Mitch of North Platte, Nebraska; Alecia Adams and her husband Blake of Oceanside, California; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Belva Olson of Haigler, Nebraska; nephews Mike Olson and his wife Linda of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jeff Olson; Steve Olson and his wife Stephanie; Scott Olson and his wife Rhonda, all of Haigler, Nebraska.

The funeral will be Friday, April 5, at 10:00 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Pastor Perry Baird officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lucas Cemetery in Idalia, Colorado.

Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel on Thursday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM MT.
