Lifelong Wallace County, Kansas resident Hubert C. “Bert” Basgall, 86, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at his home.

He was born August 3, 1926, at Wallace, Kansas, the son of Anna Marie “Mary” (Urban) and Alexander Basgall.  He graduated with the class of 1944 from Wallace County Community High School in Sharon Springs.  He served his country in WWII in the United States Army.  On November 7, 1949, he and Vonna Lee Smith were married at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs.  He had served the community for over thirty-five years as custodian and bus driver at the schools of Sharon Springs.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars—Jerome Dechant Post 6844.  One of his greatest enjoyments in life was his music.  He played in numerous bands including the “Night Owls”, “The Musical Maniacs”, and most recently, the “Swinging Seniors”.

Preceding him in death were his son Randy Basgall; his parents Alex and Mary Basgall; father-in-law and mother-in-law Raymond and Mildred Smith; two sisters Margaret Chaney and Bernice Boyle; four brothers Eugene, Wilfred, Edwin, and Norbert; sisters-in-law Darlene and Liz; brothers-in-law Leo Bussen, Bud Wostenberg, Charles Boyle, Raymond Smith, Jr.

Surviving family includes his wife Vonna Basgall of Sharon Springs; daughter Sherry Frasier and her husband Curt of Beloit; son Steve Basgall, Barbara-Jean and Ashton Ottley of Hays; son Barry Basgall and his wife Cheryl of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; daughter Marla Turner and her husband John of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Janet Ruder and her husband Vincent of Kemah, Texas; son Don Basgall and his wife JoAnna of Sharon Springs; son Kent Basgall and his wife Susan of Shawnee; grandchildren Leaha  Basgall-Henderson, her husband Bob, and their children Emily, Nik, Gage, Samantha, and Keegan Henderson, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Justin Frasier, his wife Stacie, and their children Kaden, Blake, and Chase, all of Manhattan; Darci Frasier of Kansas City, Missouri; Jolee Frasier of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jarett Ray Basgall of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; John Paul Turner of Miami, Florida; Nicholas Basgall of Manhattan; Heather Basgall of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Jacob Turner of Jacksonville, Florida; Alex Basgall of Sharon Springs; Ellie Basgall of Shawnee; sisters Dolores Bussen of Wallace; Juanita Wostenburg of Sharon Springs; and brother George Basgall of Boulder, Colorado.

Visitation will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 6:00 until 7:00 PM MT, and Vigil and Rosary will be at 7:00 PM MT.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Saturday, April 6, at 10:30 AM MT, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding.  Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Memorials may be designated to the Parish Hall, and may be left at the service, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS  67735.  Online condolences:
