Gerald Anderson

Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Gerald Archie Anderson, 79, died Friday, August 28, 2015, at his home.

He was born May 18, 1936, in Kit Carson County, Colorado, the son of Juanita (McClung) and Archie Leland Anderson.  He attended elementary schools at Beaver Valley and Sandy Hill, both in rural Sherman County, Kansas, and then graduated with the class of 1954 from Sherman Community High School in Goodland, Kansas.

On August 18, 1957, he and Shirley Joan Hayden were married at the Methodist Church in Goodland, and they made their home in rural Sherman County, where they ranched and farmed.  He had been a 4-H member and then a leader.  His memberships included Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.  He served as a fair board member and a Foundation Beefmaster  Association board member, and supported the Little Britches Rodeo.  He and Shirley earned the Conservation Bankers’ Award  and the Goodyear Award.  He also enjoyed adopting wild horses.

Preceding him in death were his son Dale Anderson, parents, sister Loranell Nelson, and brother Darrel Anderson.

Surviving family includes his wife Shirley Anderson of rural Sherman County; son Jay Anderson and his wife Cindy of Amarillo, Texas; son Jon Anderson and his wife Tina of Goodland; seven grandchildren Jacki Waters and her husband Adam of Goodland; Jenna Morris and her husband Dewane of Grand Island, Nebraska; Jordan Anderson and his wife Melinda of Goodland;  Tyler Anderson of Borger, Texas; Marcus Binger of Hutchinson; Gerald “Jake’ Anderson of Goodland; Ashley Anderson of Goodland; Matt Gould of Kansas City, Missouri; Jeremy Gould of San Diego, California; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Diana Johnston of Gridley; brother-in-law LaVern Nelson of Durango, Colorado; and many more family and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 1, at 10:00 AM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding.  Burial will follow at 2:30 PM MT at the Wallace Cemetery in rural Wallace.

Friends may share their respects on Monday, August 31, from 6:00 until 7:00 PM MT
at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with vigil and rosary following at 7:00 PM MT.

Memorials may be designated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or the Wallace Cemetery, and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.   Online condolences:  www.koonsfuneralhome.com
