Floyd Larson

Floyd William Larson, age 85, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
Floyd was born March 13, 1931, in Sharon Springs to John and Ella (DeBeer) Larson.  He attended various grade schools in Wallace County, graduated from Wallace County High School in 1949, and remained a Wallace County resident for the rest of his life.  On September 2, 1951, he married Helen Keister at the Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
Floyd has served as a member of various boards, including the Wallace County School Board for 17 years, Wallace County Co-op Board for 9 years, Sharon Lutheran Church Board, Farmers Home Administration Board, Northwest Kansas Technical College Board, the Wallace County Fair Board for numerous years, and also was active in promoting the establishment of the home owned carnival over 35 years ago.   Floyd and Helen were steadfast in their support of 4-H and its programs, giving when needed, and consistently supporting the 4-H Livestock Auction.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents John and Ella Larson; his wife Helen; his daughter Beverly (Larson) Deines; and several brothers, sisters, and in-laws.
Survivors include four children: Rhonda Mears of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; Dan Larson and wife Becky (Umscheid) of Sharon Springs, Kansas; Lori Borg and husband Stan of Hillsboro, Kansas; Cari Wasson and  husband Brad of Dodge City, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by six siblings: Jack Larson and wife Mary Lou (Mather) of Newcastle, Wyoming; sister Ellen Huffman of Northglenn, Colorado; sister Lois Wiles and husband Earl of Leoti, Kansas; sister Betty Schreiber and husband Kenneth of Laguna Hill, California; Joseph Larson and wife Judy of Manhattan, Kansas; and Richard Larson and wife Anita of Thornton, Colorado.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 10:00 am MDT at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, Kansas, with Pastor Phil Knox, Reverend Paul McNall, and Pastor Duncan Ibuuri officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm MDT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
Memorials may be designated to the Floyd Larson Memorial Fund, and left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS  67735.
