Eva Lou was the fifth of six children, with two older sisters, two older brothers and one younger sister. Her mother died when she was 9-years-old; Eva was raised by her eldest sister and brother-in-law.

Eva loved cooking/baking, music and animals. She attended Fort Hays State University, taking her first teaching position in Paradise, Kansas, upon her graduation. In 1958, she started teaching at Brewster, Kansas, where she met William “Bill” Selby, the Vo-Ag teacher “40 steps away down the hall”. They married May 25, 1959. She also accompanied countless high school and middle school students at music contests and played for numerous weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Goodland Brass Band, sang with the tri-state Sweet Adelines Chorus, and sang with a local ladies’ barbershop quartet.

Being very community minded, she participated in the Cub Scouts, 4-H, Sunday School, VFW Auxiliary, Brewster Library, Brewster Senior Center, NWK Heritage Center and Museum, and taught private piano lessons. She also prepared food for many events, including events her three grandsons were involved in over the years.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, her son Brent, her parents, one brother in infancy and four siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Lonnie of Brewster, KS & William “Ocie” of Lafayette, IN, their spouses, 3 grandsons and 8 great-grandchildren.

Per Eva’s request there will be no funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
