Delmer Eugene Ziegler

Delmer Eugene Ziegler was born on November 17, 1941 to Fred and Hilda (Wolff) Ziegler. He was the second child of three. In 1959, Delmer graduated from Bethune High School and enlisted in the Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1964, at which point he joined the National Guard. On January 12, 1964, Delmer married the love of his life, Sharon K. Pottorff. To this union three children were born: Penny Ann (1964), Gregory Dean (1966) and Eric Scott (1970). The family settled on their farm until 1979 when they moved to the town of Bethune and lived out the rest of his days.

Delmer was a hard working farmer and salesman throughout his career. He and his wife Sharon, started a successful realty business together, Eastern Plains Real Estate Investment, which he maintained up until his death.

Delmer had a passion for sports and played on town teams in Basketball and Baseball. He also played on various softball teams up until the age of 50, at which time life got too busy and he retired from his playing days.

Delmer was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and various committees for many years. He was a faithful servant and always helped on "mowing days"! He had a special love for his Lord and his Church.

Delmer's grandchildren were a joy that filled his heart! Once the grandchildren started arriving, he was occupied with attending many school events. He thoroughly enjoyed playing catch or teaching them how to play defense for basketball. Delmer and Sharon went to everything that they could, whether it was a 4-H event, sporting event or the school play, you would see them there cheering on their grandchildren! Even as recent as this past year, Delmer could be seen in the stands supporting his beloved Bethune Bobcats.

It was often said that "Delmer didn't know a stranger!" There was never a story too long or a story too short. He loved helping out his family and friends. With his beautiful bride of 62 years by his side, the good Lord blessed him with two very special weeks. The gift of time was given to Delmer to say "Good-bye" to his family and friends. A time that many will cherish for years to come.

Delmer went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hilda Ziegler, Brother-in-law Eliert Weiss, adopted brother Milbert Berenger and his wife Aldene, His in-laws Homer and Mabel Pottorff.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 62 years, his daughter, Penny (Scott) Aeschliman of Burlington, Colorado, son, Gregory (Deena) Ziegler of Stratton, Colorado and son, Eric (Patty) Ziegler of Bethune, Colorado, his sister, Geri Weiss of Phoenix, Arizona and her children, Cindy, Kelly and Becky; his brother Fred (Karen) Ziegler of Wellington, Colorado and their children Grant and Angela, and his brother-in-law’s, Rich and Ron Pottorff and their families.

His grandchildren: Trevor (Michelle) Aeschliman, of Timnath, Colorado, Jamie Aeschliman, of Stratton, Colorado, Sadee (Kayle) Rico of Gary, Nebraska, Wiat (Marilyn) Ziegler of Augusta, Georgia, Sidnee (Jack) Wilcox of Marion, Illinois, Seth Ziegler and fiancè Allison of Goodland, Kansas, Kaitlynn Norman and fiancè Ashley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hannah (Levi) Bjorklund of Sterling, Lane Ziegler and fiancè Breanna Wilson of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Tyler Ziegler of Bethune, Colorado.

Great grandchildren: Koah and Cecily Aeschliman, Aiden McHenry, Indiana and Chevel Ziegler, Grayson and Avery Wilcox, Cason, Suseanna and Ila Bjorklund and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and dear cherished friends.

Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the Delmer Ziegler Scholarship Fund and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735.
