Longtime Burlington, Colorado resident Darla Laverenz, age 66, died Monday, May 26th, 2025, at her home in Burlington.
Darla Ann Laverenz was born May 2nd, 1959, in Colby, KS, to John and Esther (Weber) Laverenz. She was the oldest of four children along with three brothers, Marty, Duane, and Darrin.
The Laverenz family moved from Colby to Burlington in 1965. In school, Darla enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, as well as basketball. She attended and graduated from Burlington High School in 1977. After graduation, Darla spent a short time in Sterling for college. In the late 70’s, she briefly moved back to Burlington and helped her mother, Esther, with housekeeping for several local motels. Darla moved to Colorado Springs in the 80s, working as housekeeper at a local hotel and soon promoted to management. She spent most of the 90s living in Calhan, CO where she worked and managed a Loaf N’ Jug. In 1997, her mother suffered a stroke, prompting her to make her final move home to Burlington to help Duane take care of John and Esther in 2000. Darla worked as a housekeeper at Grace Manor Care Center while her mother was living there until 2009. She has been an outstanding employee of the City of Burlington for the last 16 years, always greeting customers with a smile and a helpful attitude.
If you know Darla, you know she had a passion for her family, friends and dogs. She loved her dogs more than anything in the world, as well as an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Goofy lover, and Pepsi drinker. Darla was truly one of a kind with her wonderful smile, infectious laugh, huge heart, as well as her ornery sense of humor.
Darla is preceded in death by her parents, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, friends, and her many dogs she had throughout the years.
Surviving family members include her brother Marty (Beth) Laverenz of Centennial, CO; Duane Laverenz of Burlington, CO; Darrin (Peggy) Laverenz of Longmont, CO,nieces and nephews, Shane and Damara Laverenz, Abby and Tanner Jones, Jamee and Marcus Grinnan, Colton Laverenz, Mason and Jenna Spalding, Mike and Kim Spalding and Cassandra and Jason Swick, Casey and Levi Pace, Crystal and Justin Richards, and Chad and Sonya Pace, as well as Great Grand Nieces Kelsea Laverenz, Franklynn and Finnleigh Grinnan, and Harper and Great Grand Nephew Rocky Jones.
