Charles H. Paul

Longtime Wallace and Sherman County resident Charles Harold “Chuck” Paul, 81, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015.

He was born April 2, 1934, at Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of Irene Mary Melissa (Harold) and James Paul.  He attended elementary grades one through six at Sharon Springs and continued his education in grades seven through twelve at Weskan.  Following graduation from high school, he graduated from Emily Griffith Barber School in Denver, Colorado.  From 1954 through 1956, he served his country in the United States Army.

On June 1, 1958, he and Carolyn Joyce Purvis were married at Sharon Springs, and they made their home in Wallace County until they retired and moved to Sherman County fifteen years ago.  In addition to barbering, he also operated Sharon Springs Trash Service.  He was a member of Hi-Plains Baptist Church in Sharon Springs and Gideons.

Preceding him in death were his father James Paul; his mother Irene Paul Nelson; step-father Harry Nelson; and brother James Edward Paul.

Surviving family includes his wife Carolyn Paul of Sherman County; children Shelly VanCamp and her husband Kurt of Smithville, Missouri; Steven Paul of Sharon Springs; Lori Titus of Goodland; Mark Paul and his wife Carrie of Ulysses; grandchildren Krystal Reno and her husband Seth of Kansas City, Missouri; Keegan VanCamp and his wife Kara of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Nicole Roeder and her husband Daron of Goodland; Adam Paul of Hays; Kassidi Florence and her husband Shane of Plattsburg, Missouri; Morgan Whitmore and her husband Brock of Hays; Gage Paul of Hays; Kara VanCamp of Smithville, Missouri; Audrey Titus of Hays; Sydell Paul of Garden City; Shea Paul of Garden City; Jace Paul of Ulysses; Seth Paul of Garden City; Trey Paul of Ulysses; great-grandchildren Mason Reno, Chase Florence, Karlie Florence, Pierce Roeder, McKinley Florence, Brynlynn Whitmore; siblings Dennis Paul of Garfield; Harrison Nelson and his wife MaryAnne of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; Linda Roth and her husband Greg of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.

The funeral will be on Saturday, August 15, at 10:30 AM MT, at the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Rick Dewees officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Saturday, August 15, from 9:30 until 10:30 AM MT, at the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Church.

Memorials may be designated to Hospice Services of Sherman and Wallace Counties or Hi-Plains Baptist Church and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
