Charles Raney

October 28, 1938 — June 26, 2016

Longtime Wallace County, Kansas resident Charles F. Raney, 77, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, Kansas.

He was born October 28, 1938, at Syracuse, Kansas, the son of Ella M (Kendrick) and Fredrick Walters Raney.  He attended country school at Mitchell School and graduated from Johnson High School in Johnson, Kansas.  He furthered his education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and then at Denver University.

On November 16, 1958, he and Judy Baugh were married at the Methodist Church in Johnson, and they made their home in rural Wallace County, where they ranched and farmed.  He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and the Weskan Bible Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister Marilyn Cockreham.

Surviving family includes his wife Judy Raney of Sharon Springs; five children Connie Okeson and her husband Darrel of Weskan; Sherry Coker and her husband Dave of Apache Junction, Arizona; Brian Raney and his wife Angie of Lakin; Kevin Raney and his wife Kerri of Alliance, Nebraska; Tina Roths and her husband Darren of Burlington, Colorado; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and sister Melva Jean Tuggle of Denver, Colorado.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 30, at 10:00 AM MT, at the Weskan Bible Church in Weskan, Kansas, with Pastor Tim Cress officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Wednesday, June 29, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.

Memorials may be designated to the Weskan Bible Church, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
