Bruce Buck, beloved father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, community servant, and proud United States Marine, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on October 7, 1938, Bruce lived a life grounded in devotion—to his country, to his family, to his community, and to the many friends whose lives he enriched along the way.
Bruce spent many years as the town barber of Sharon Springs, Kansas, a place where neighbors gathered not only for a haircut but also for conversation and connection. He served the community as a County Commissioner and dedicated additional time on the Sharon Springs and NWKTC school boards. His commitment to service left a meaningful and lasting impact on the community he proudly called home for so many years.
In the last few years of his life, Bruce moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, where he enjoyed being closer to family and continued to cherish the simple, meaningful moments that filled his days.
In 2008, Bruce experienced the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife, Kathryn. Though her passing left an empty space in his life, Bruce honored her memory by keeping his days full and his heart open. He found purpose and joy in spending time with their four children — Pamela Bunker and her husband Tod of Wauneta, NE, Brenda Cunningham and her husband Mervin of Sharon Springs, KS, Scott Buck and his wife Tina of Lakewood, WA and Steven Buck of Westminster, CO. He was endlessly proud of each of them and treasured every moment shared together, whether during big celebrations or simple, everyday visits over a cup of coffee.
Bruce’s joy only grew with the arrival of his grandchildren: Katie (Erick), Kylie (Chris), Kristopher (McKenzie), Maddison (Samual), McKenzie, Andrew, Elizabeth and Emmalee. Each one held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in watching them grow into the people they are today.
His life was further brightened by his four great‑grandchildren—Dylan, Evan, Aubree, and Greydon—who brought him endless laughter and happiness.
Bruce is also survived by his siblings Patrick Buck, Jean Finley, Gloria Lewis and Virginia Whalen, along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom were part of the family legacy he leaves behind.
Above all, Bruce will be remembered for the way he cared for the people around him. He enjoyed every opportunity to be with family and friends, and his kindness and calm presence made those times truly special.
Bruce Buck leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and deep devotion—to his family, to his community, and to the many lives he touched along the way. Though he will be profoundly missed, the impact he made will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
May he rest in peace, reunited at last with Kathryn.
Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made out to the Bruce Buck Memorial Fund and may be sent to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
