Bob Johnson

December 17, 1927 — July 27, 2015

Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Bob L. Johnson, 87, died Monday, July 27, 2015, at his home.

He was born December 17, 1927, in Sherman County, Kansas, the son of  Edna May (Gardner) and W. Henry Johnson.  He attended Warren Country School and graduated from Sherman Community High School in Goodland with the class of 1945.

On August 16, 1952, he and Mary Lou Simmering were married at Raton, New Mexico, and they made their home in Sherman County.  His memberships included Elks Lodge #1528 in Goodland.  He enjoyed baseball, helping on his sons' teams, playing pitch, farming, old-time country music and the RFD channel, and reading.  He was a devoted husband and father, who missed his wife greatly after her passing.

Preceding him in death were his wife Mary Lou Johnson, who died March 22, 2008; his parents; ten siblings Vera Daniels, Vona Price, Maxine Tagtmeyer, Fern Peter, Sherman Johnson, Hazel Peter, Maurice Johnson, Jack Johnson, Harold Johnson, and Wayne Johnson.

Surviving family includes four sons Michael D. Johnson of Goodland; Craig Johnson and his wife Pam; Dennis L. Johnson and his wife Karen; Kent L. Johnson and his wife Cathy, all of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren Mitch Johnson, Breanna Lunsford and her husband Brian, Brittany Johnson, Wes Johnson, and Steven Johnson; two great-grandchildren Tallon Johnson and Carisma Johnson;  former daughter-in-law Cindy Todd and her husband Brent of Denver, Colorado, and sister Geraldine Westfall and her husband Wayne of Ulysses.

Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be designated to Hospice Services of Sherman County, and may be mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
