November 29, 1927 — July 7, 2014

Lifelong Goodland, Kansas resident Betty Elaine (Short) Webb, 86, died Monday, July 7, 2014, in Goodland at Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County.

She was born November 29, 1927, in Goodland, Kansas, the daughter of Bessie Verna (Stewart) and Charles Emerson Short.  Betty was educated in the Goodland schools and graduated with the class of 1946 from Sherman Community High School.

As a young girl, she delivered milk in Goodland from her parents’ dairy.  After her parents established the trucking company and C & G Café and Truck Stop, she worked as a waitress at C & G Café for many years.  It was at C & G Café that she met Jess Webb.  They were married July 23, 1948, at the Christian Church parsonage and they enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage.  To this union were born two sons Gerald “Jerry” Emerson and Larry Lee.

Betty Elaine was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Goodland.  With the Good Sam Camping Club, she and Jess enjoyed many fun trips.  Betty was a homemaker, and the Webbs ran the Goodland Skating Rink in the late sixties and early seventies.  She helped her husband with the bookkeeping for their plumbing business, as well as later serving as a dietary aide at the Goodland Regional Medical Center.

Preceding her in death were her husband Jess Webb, who died July 6, 2005; son Jerry Webb; grandson Scott Travis Webb; parents; and brother Gene Short and his wife Betty.

Surviving family includes her son Larry Webb of Goodland; daughter-in-law Jo Webb of Beaver City, Nebraska; grandchildren Steven, Jennifer, Troy, Trevor, and Jessica; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister Barbara Mae Busby of Loveland, Colorado (formerly of Burlington, Colorado).

The funeral will be Wednesday, July 9, at 10:30 AM MT, at First United Methodist Church in Goodland, with Pastor Lew Van Der Wege officiating.   Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Tuesday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
Memorials may be designated to First United Methodist Church, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
