Arlan Dale Wamhoff, 76, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on September 7, 1948 in St. Francis, Kansas, to Alvin and Winnifred (Brubaker) Wamhoff.
Arlan grew up and attended school in Bird City, Kansas, graduating from Bird City Rural High School in 1966. He participated in many school activities, was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, and spent many summers doing farm work.
Arlan went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University and his Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University. He was proud of being an educator in the USD 382 schools for 40 years. Hired as a government teacher at Pratt High School, Arlan later helped develop a program for gifted high school and middle school students, and served as gifted education specialist for USD 382.
After he retired from teaching, Arlan enjoyed volunteering at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was an avid K-State fan and an outdoor enthusiast, spending many vacations hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains.
He is survived by his siblings, Stanley Wamhoff of Fort Collins, Colorado, Alana Wamhoff of Tonto Basin, Arizona, Carolyn (Jerry) Rothfuss of Miltonvale, Kansas, Luann (Kerry) Ingersoll of Manhattan, Kansas; 5 nieces; 11 great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and good friends.
Arlan is preceded in death by his parents and sister in-law, Harriet Wamhoff.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 10:30 AM CT on Friday, May, 9, 2025 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Bird City, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Bird City Cemetery, Bird City.
Memorials may be made to the Bird City Public Library or Tri-State Antique Engine & Thresher Association and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
