David E. Gray, Jr., passed away on February 21, 2023 at the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. He was born July 22, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to David and Margaret (White) Gray. He graduated from Crafton, Pennsylvania High School in 1948 and joined the army in 1948 and landed in the Battle of Incheon in Korea 1950. He received the Purple Heart in 1951 and ended up serving 22 years in the military followed by 15 years of civil service.
On May 18, 1957, Dave married Carol (Jennings) Gray at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. To this union, two sons and two daughters were born. Dave, Papo to his family, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all he met. Dave enjoyed refereeing basketball and football, along with playing golf, bowling, and racquet ball. Dave was proud of his hole in one at the Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course, where he loved to go with his friends and family. Dave was most interested in attending 7th Division conventions and visiting with anyone that was stationed in Korea.
Dave is preceded in death by his father David and mother Margaret, his sisters Eileen, Gail, Rose Marie, Shirley and Alice.
Dave is survived by his wife Carol; daughters; Michelle (Mark) Scott and Sharon (David) Janitell and sons; David (Paula) and Mitchell (Sue Gray); sister Ann (Ray) Robbins, brother Lee (Pacita), nephew John Kramer; grandchildren; Grant Stermer, Joshua (Sarah) Gray, Zac (Ashlyn) Gray, Mallory (Chris) Dean, Victoria (Brian) Ali, Ryan Janitell, Kelsie (Jake) Costlow, Kristen Gray, Nate (Kirbi) Scott, Emma Scott, Kenneth Gray, Andrew Gray, Joseph Gray, Jesse Gray, Charles Gray, Brandon Gray, Brandi Gray, and Amy Gray, great grandchildren; Gabriella Stermer, Oliver, Penelope, Piper Dean, David Gray, Caleb Gray, Trevor Gray, Cameron Gray, Riley and Cooper Ali, Cooper Costlow. Dave was a man of great integrity and virtue, which will be missed by all of those that were fortunate to know him.
Cremation was chosen and Dave’s ashes will be inurned on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 12:00 PM MT.
